Nepal: The Roof of the World

Country Overview Nepal is a majestic land of vertical extremes, home to Mount Everest and the birthplace of Lord Buddha. It is a spiritual crossroads where Hinduism and Buddhism have harmoniously intertwined for centuries. From the subtropical plains of the Terai to the frozen peaks of the Himalayas, Nepal’s identity is defined by its 125 ethnic groups and a philosophy of deep-rooted hospitality—where every guest is treated as a god.

  • Cultural Highlights: The rhythmic Madal drum and the energetic Lakhey mask dance are central to life, alongside grand festivals like Dashain and Tihar (Festival of Lights).

  • Cuisine: Powered by the national staple Dal Bhat (lentil soup and rice), alongside Momos (dumplings), Sel Roti (sweet rice bread), and hearty Himalayan Thukpa.

  • Arts & Heritage: Renowned for Thangka paintings, the intricate woodcarvings of Kathmandu’s Durbar Squares, and the sacred stupas of Boudhanath and Lumbini.

  • Contemporary Culture: A global hub for adventure sports, Nepal is also seeing a surge in its modern film industry and digital innovation, with a passionate national pride in its rising Cricket team.

  • Festival Connection: At SACF 2026, Nepal offers a sanctuary of Himalayan calm and spiritual resilience, showcasing the peaceful coexistence of its many cultures through sacred art and mountain traditions.
